Report throws light on tanker accidents
Article Abstract:
The human errors and casual factors that have been found to be the major contributors to most of the maritime accidents, as revealed by the Inter Industry Working Group and Human Factors Task Group reports, are presented. The reports were submitted for review by International Maritime Organization's Maritime Safety Committee.

A feeder vessel ran aground after the ship missed its planned course alteration because the officer on watch was engrossed in a text message conversation. The timeframe of the accident, factors involved, and future considerations to avoid this type of accident are discussed.
