Transferable davits
Article Abstract:
Lifeboat davits permanently attached to the ship deck may soon be replaced with a new davit that can be installed on a mobile frame. This kind of davit will only be onboard when needed and can be removed when not required. Features and assembly of the davit are presented.

The safety of lifeboat on-load release mechanisms is scrutinized in light of injuries and fatalities related to this equipment. A standard design criteria and basic operating principle for all on-load release hooks is suggested to improve the safety of this equipment.
