Welfare needs changing
Article Abstract:
Welfare needs of today's seafarers are changing and increasing. Ship managers, as well as organizations and welfare societies, should recognize this matter and be able to provide better services to keep crews happy and content to maintain efficient operation . Some programs that cater to these changing welfare needs are presented.

The deadline for installation of voyage data recorders on ships over 3,000gt is set for 2010. Installation of these systems can be problematic, because it takes at least six man-days to install the cables and control equipment on the ship.
