Cognitive distance: a neglected issue in travel behavior
Article Abstract:
Travel research has often neglected the disparity between travelers' perception of distance and actual distance. This oversight has to be corrected if travel behavior is to be completely understood. Tourist perception of distance on the east coast of Australia was studied. Results indicated that their cognitive distance was greater than actual distance and that distance cognition was different for tourists and residents of the area.
