Innovative retailing will maximise consumer spending in leisure facilities during recession. Effective visual displays, stock management and competitive pricing enable theme park retailers to compete with high street shops. Incentives encourage staff to promote certain lines. Special offers, savings vouchers and acceptance of credit cards increase spending. Staff operated vending machines allow high consumer throughput. Amusement machines with prize vouchers for exchange in retail outlets are gaining popularity.

Many large leisure facilities now operate catering kiosks, reflecting the trend away from sitting down in cafes or restaurants for a long time.
