The English Tourism Council has re-launched the annual Excellence in England awards, prestigious honors which praise the best in tourism in the country. This is a move to revive the tourism industry, which has suffered due to the impact of foot and mouth disease.

Confusion in the countryside

A survey by the English Tourist Council has revealed that many people still think the countryside is closed after the foot-and-mouth crisis. The reality in September 2001 is that much of the country is open and the industry needs to encourage people to return.
