David Laing, of New Zoo Developments (NZD), is keen to build a wildlife cinema and walkthrough aquarium. His plans to do so at London Zoo, London, UK, were rejected, but he is hopeful of his company setting up a joint venture with the Natural History Museum, London, UK. The development, for which NZD also has other London sites in mind, will cover 170,000 sq ft. The firm's budget is 35 million pounds sterling, vs the average 3 million pounds sterling cost of a sea life centre.

Some leisure management contractors are now making efforts to emphasise high standards of quality and service by setting up chains of facilities with brand names. They now see health and fitness as a key profit source in the overall management of the multi-use centres for which they are responsible. They are exploiting the general public's growing interest in health and fitness in order to ensure that they receive a return on their investment.

Lord Thurso, the manager of Champneys health resort in Hertfordshire, England, aims to float the company on the stock market by the year 2000, for a sum of 50 million pounds sterling. Champneys is renowned as a high-class health resort but lacked direction in recent years. Thurso was asked to join the company in Oct. 1995 to breath new life into the organisation. He was the general manager for the Lancaster Hotel in Paris for five years.
