Future planning

Article Abstract:

The 'Setting Leisure in Your Sites' conference, hosted recently by the South East England Regional Leisure Group, looked at the changing relationship between planners and leisure developers. Speakers highlighted the growing need for decision makers in planning and leisure to develop schemes which are both imaginative and manageable as the leisure industry receives more funds from the National Lottery. It is important that the industry does not submit schemes for National Lottery funding which have been put together without consideration for whether they are truly sustainable.

Life of crime

Article Abstract:

A 3.5 million pounds sterling crime and punishment attraction has opened as part of a museum of law in Nottingham, England. The Galleries of Justice, sited in the former Shire Hall, incorporates audio-visual displays, exhibits and costumed interpreters to bring to life the atmosphere of a 19th century prison. Vistors to the attraction are treated like prisoners as they are ordered through the exhibition by uncivil warders and children are allowed to try on prison uniforms. A national centre for law education is expected to be completed by December 1998.
