Joining forces

Article Abstract:

The inspection blitz being experienced by restaurants in Toronto, Ontario, is the fault of both the industry and the city government. The issues at hand are public health and safety which some restaurateurs have ignored due to the laxity of the City of Toronto. To solve the problem between industry and the municipality, they should create a close partnership to ensure safe and clean establishments. Restaurateurs should be given a clear insight into the inspection standards while the government should not award licenses unless training and certification in foodservice health and safety have been achieved.

Fooling ourselves

A study was conducted asking 100,000 entrepreneurs to assess their ability to build a business as compared to others in the market. The neglect of competition, occurrence of unexpected events, organizational pressures and underestimation of costs are the main cause of failure and reason for closure of most restaurants in Canada.
