Article Abstract:

Major science visitor centre NewMetropolis will open in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in Jun 1997. The centre will comprise five sections termed Science, Humanity, Technology, Energy and Interactions. These sections have a broad viewpoint incorporating science, social science and the humanities, and focus on issues which affect people's lives. The project is the brainchild of newMetropolis executive director Joost Douma, and it has the financial backing of government and the private sector. The building, which resembles a ship alongside Amsterdam's harbour, was designed by Renzo Piano.

Profile: Millennium

Article Abstract:

The 34 million pounds sterling Our Dynamic Earth attraction is the first completed project to be built which celebrates the Millennium. The attraction is located in Edinburgh, Scotland and is designed to educate and entertain up to 430,000 people per annum on the subject of the earth and its development. Many visitors will be from school parties, although the centre will be marketed at a wide spectrum of the community. Each visitor will spend about 90 minutes being taken through various galleries which explore different aspects of the earth and its evolusion.

John Lowther, the operations director of London's newest attraction Vinopolis is impressed with the quality of the project, which gives visitors an insight into the world of wine. The 23 million pounds sterling project, managed by Wineworld London PLC, has an annual target of 400,000 visitors. It offers restaurants, two major corporate hospitality facilities, plus exhibition space.
