Keep it in the family: quality indoor play facilities have been pioneered by the major brewers in recent years, but there are still unexploited markets which may be addressed
Article Abstract:
There is growing demand for play facilities in pubs, hotels, shopping centres and restaurants. It is possible to mix high-tech components, such as computer games, films and laser games, with more traditional games. Many major breweries offer bolt-on adventure play areas to family pub restaurants, although they are often isolated from the venue. Hotels offer creches and standard play facilities, but they would benefit from themed, characterized and branded individually designed areas. Soft play areas should be chosen carefully, taking into account the level of supervision available.

Competition versus quality
Article Abstract:
Contracting out local authority arts management will change management structures and may reduce the quality of arts provision. Management by leisure operators will be difficult due to the different nature of arts events and lack of specific definition. Monitoring the quality of provision will depend on judgement. Contractors may also reject risky ventures in favour of popular programming. Local authorities would have to choose between maintaining tight controls or devolving responsibility completely.
