UK leisure operators are seeking to increase profits from vending machine installations by providing training for staff who operate the machines. Investment is required by operators to ensure staff maximize profits on vending installation. Staff are ideally placed to learn what customers want from vending machines, such as different products and packaging. The involvement of staff with customers helps make vending machine usage a more personal activity.

Leisure operators are realising that customers expect sophisticated lighting and sound systems, and some fitness sites are using light and sound to alter their image. Operators planning to investing in lighting and sound systems should seek reference sites for similar work done by a supplier. Technology is becoming simpler, and 'plug 'n' play' systems are available, although there is still a need for staff training.
