Oil flows out of U.S. pact with Arabia
Article Abstract:
US foreign policy in the Persian Gulf now that American dependence on Middle Eastern oil supplies has lessened is an interesting question. The present response of having US military bases and stronger internal security is depriving the Saudi government of the chance to oversee political adjustment to an enhanced domestic opposition. Moreover, responses like the US bombardment of Iraq make the vulnerability of the Saudi royal family greater. The family could aim to end US military presence and address the issues raised by the domestic opposition.

Pub brawls
Article Abstract:
Whitbread has withdrawn its offer for the retail division of Allied Domecq following the decision by UK Trade and Industry Secretary Stephen Byers to refer the bid to the Competition Commission. This leaves Punch Taverns free to negotiate directly with Allied Domecq. In a similar development, Greene King and Wolverhampton and Dudley made competing offers for Morland. Greene King's offer, raised to 182 million pounds sterling, was accepted and Wolverhampton and Dudley has now withdrawn.

What they look like to the rest of us
Article Abstract:
Lebowitz, author and observer of the rich, sees some sharp differences in the rich and the poor. The rich do not talk about the have-nots and they see the world, not as an untouchable museum, but as a store. The wealthy can do more of what they desire, and they are happier because of this.
