Rain or shine
Article Abstract:
Part of a scheme being devised by the West Country Tourist Board (WCTB) and the Area Museums Council for the South West (AMCSW) aims to encourage tourists to visit museums and to establish a closer link between tourism and museums. Research indicated that tourist boards often find museums difficult to work with and that they suffer from funding restrictions and undertake little promotion. However, some regional and large museums attract many visitors, and smaller units, often kept open by volunteers, have regional interest. Moves by galleries and museums in the West Country to attract visitors are considered.

Show me the money
Article Abstract:
An estimated 5 billion pounds sterling was contributed to the UK economy by heritage and cultural attractions in 1998, making the sector an important financial and educational market. Many museums have turned to aggressive marketing in order to attract visitors, while others have developed partnering schemes with private or public sector partners. Commercial exhibitions can have a significant impact on the economy of local communities, showing the need for a greater level of collaboration between the two sectors.

Games show: To satisfy a more discerning generation of players, AWPs and SWPs more exciting than ever before
Article Abstract:
Amusement with Prizes (AWP) and Skil with Prizes (SWP) machine manufacturers are providing more value for money and improving the quality of the games. They are including themes, with visuals and sound effects to attract a wider audience. This follows the introduction of a licence fee of 250 pounds sterling per machine per year which led to many machines being removed, reducing the overall market size by more than 35%.
