The UK's health clubs should ensure that they use 1996 to seize the opportunity to establish a high profile among the general public. They must particularly strive to derive benefit from the Health Education Authority's (HEA) healthier lifestyle campaign, which is due to be launched in spring 1996. They should also consider increasing their strength by joining the Fitness Industry Association (FIA).

Liz Dicker was appointed general manager of The Broadgate Club in 1991 when it was making losses. She has turned the health and fitness club into a thriving concern, despite having no background in the fitness industry. She believes the industry has had dramatic changes during the past few years and is more competitive.
