Countertrade
Article Abstract:
Barter, or the direct exchange of one commodity for another, like a sack of grain for a pile of fruit, is a very old form of commercial activity. This kind of exchange, known in the 1980s as countertrade, still flourishes. The most common type of countertrade is called counterpurchase. This variety involves two separtate but interrelated contracts, one for the goods or services being sold, and one for the goods or services coming back the other way. Countertrading can become complicated and difficult and is not recommended for the novice.
