Article Abstract:

The Chautauqua Institute offers lectures, concerts, sermons, and many other cultural activities. The compound includes a 6,000-seat auditorium and accommodations. It has a nine-week program each summer and is patterned after the historic traveling chautauquas of the midwest before the 1920's.

Norman Lewis is considered the greatest travel writer and among the greatest writers of any genre this century. Now 87 he is still going strong, having recently completed two books with others being planned. The life and travels of this remarkable man are described.
