Article Abstract:

A personal account of a trip on a whaling expedition and an analysis of the cultural significance of whaling to Alaska's Inupiat Indians. Whalers in Alaska have been working with biologists to help with their research into whales and, it is suggested, the human species could learn much from this research.

A pioneer ahead of his time

Article Abstract:

Ray Petersen, a bush pilot in Alaska from the 1940s, was inducted into the Alaskan Aviation Heritage Hall of Fame in Mar 2001. His efforts to protect the environment and his stories about piloting are described and appreciated.

Ghosts from Christmas' past

The governor of Alaska from 1974 to 1982 relates one of his more memorable Christmas experiences. The events involve the rescue of thre injured people from a crashed aeroplane.
