Dogsled racers agree that love for the huskies, the wildnerness and the adventure are the main reasons why they compete in the Idatarod race. Mushers train with their dogs like an Olympic athlete and even spend all their money to join the race.

The life of a sled dog named Targus and how it affected the life of a family in the Yukon Territory, Canada is narrated. Although not very intelligent, Targus' other characteristics endeared him to the family.

Loose puppy adopts Jeff King
Article Abstract:
A loose puppy followed sled dog racer Jeff King during the 1995 Iditarod race. The puppy, which was named Elim, was eventually adopted by King and became a member of his second-string team.
