Old intolerance and a new world
Article Abstract:
Muslims, Christians and Jews lived in the peninsula now known as Spain in the 15th century. The Jews tended to be more influenced by Christianity and converted in more significant numbers than the Muslims. Mobs pillaged the Jewish areas of 100 towns in 1391. Ferdinand aimed to raise Spain to supremacy in Christendom, so he taxed the Jews to raise funds. In 1478 he revived the Inquisition. The Muslims were expected to return to Africa after the conquest of Granada. The Expulsion of the Jews caused about 165,000 to leave in 1492.
