Article Abstract:
The 19th century French painter Claude Monet, a great many of whose works will be exhibited by the Art Institute of Chicago beginning July 22, 1995, failed to achieve success during the early years of his career. Until the turn of the century, Monet's impressionism was often reviled in the press.
