Pesticides: what airlines don't want you to know
Article Abstract:
Airlines practice the policy of `disinsection' or spraying of pesticides to avoid insect contamination for both domestic and international flights. tries. This started in the 1940s and involved stewardesses going up and down aisles with aerosol cans after planes landed. Today airlines spray the cabins in advance. These pesticides can create health problems for people with respiratory conditions, pregnant women and those who are exposed to them frequently from repeated trips. The DOT has attempted to convince other countries to eliminate the process since it has been proven that insecticide treatments do not prevent the spread of diseases. Unfortunately, many nations still require disinsection, and it is difficult for passengers to avoid indirect exposure.
