Ramona Barnes, the first woman speaker of the Alaska of Representatives was born in Pikeville and died on November 26 in Anchorage at the age of 65. She is a pro-development lawmaker who worked on legislation that involved everything from Alaska Railroad to the Department of Corrections.

OBITUARY: Mary Demientieff born in Eagle, a nurse by profession died at the age of 97. She provided health care for decades in Nenana and was honored doctoral degree in 1986 from the university of Alaska Fairbanks.
