Transition to motherhood is a life-changing event for a woman, especially if she is the first to become a mother in her circle of friends. One advantage of becoming the first to become pregnant is to be the first to experience the joys and pains of labor and child rearing.

Adoption aid: by offering financial and practical support, a growing number of companies are helping their employees become parents

Approximately 23% of companies offered adoption benefits to their employees in 1995, compared to only 12% in 1990. Adoption-aid packages include reimbursement for adoption fees, paid family leave and referral services.
