The Freedom Summer 1996 is a voter registration drive that is similar to the Freedom Summer in 1964, which helped establish the civil rights legislation. The initiative calls upon college students across the nation to troop to California to help campaign against an attempt to dismantle affirmative action programs and discrimination laws in the state through a referendum. It was organized by the Campaign for Women's Rights and Civil Rights.
