Perry and Helen Dunlop are nice, small-town folks who discovered a local sex abuse scandal against a local priest and who dared to report this wrongdoing to the proper authorities. Their actions, however, caused them to be ostracized and rejected by the community and even by their own family.

Johnson's life sentence without parole for 25 years is the solid proof that Canada's justice system is seriously flawed in its dealings with aboriginal people. While Johnson does not deny her part in the beating death of a man in 1989, she was the only one found guilty of first-degree murder.

Sex assault: would you press charges?

Women find it difficult to press sexual-assault charges for fear of revealing their previous sexual history, which defense panels are commonly using as tactics. As long as women are not ensured of a fair trial, they would rather keep silent than report sexual assaults.
