World March of Women kick-off March 8

World March 2000 starts off on the right foot

Article Abstract:

Goals of the World March 2000 are presented, an international campaign aimed at heightening awareness of social problems such as violence and poverty. At least 3,000 women's groups from 151 nations will participate in the campaign, which will coordinate worldwide demonstrations and events.

Activists go 'Hungry for Justice' in welfare fight: Clinton & Congress shred 61-year-old federal safety net for the poor

Article Abstract:

Hundreds of activists from the National Organization for Women (NOW) and other civil rights groups demonstrated in front of the White House to protest Pres Clinton's welfare repeal law. Leaders of NOW and its allies claim that the repeal of welfare would only push more poor people further down the poverty line. NOW also vowed to continue its 'Hungry for Justice' campaign and withdraw support from Congressional candidates who voted for the welfare repeal bill.
