A women's right to control her reproductive life came even more intensely focus during 2005 as controversial Supreme Court nominations and important legal challenges moved to the forefront. Several favorable court decisions pushed back cases that could have weakened abortion rights but the right wing's persistent efforts to conservative the federal judiciary made considerable advances.

Bush budget extends deficit; women's rights under attack

A poor economy combined with tax cuts has added to the burgeoning budget deficit that may ultimately affect the administration's spending agenda and lead to further job losses. The House will also vote for the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act that would prohibit safe abortion procedures performed after twelve weeks.
