Alternatives to working from home
Article Abstract:
Women Plan Toronto provides volunteers to help home-based working women develop alternatives to working at home. In a residential development, professional consultants, electronic piece workers and entrepreneurs share office space and services, child care, and training. The center promotes creativity and productivity. Between 1981 and 1991, the number of Canadian women working at home increased 69%.

Sudbury: better beginnings and futures
Article Abstract:
The Better Beginnings Better Futures Association of Sudbury, Ontario, Canada helps build better communities. The Province of Ontario sponsored the neighborhood project in 1988 to address problems in children up to 8 years old and their families. The program promotes consensus decision making in the community, and fosters community development that will continue independent of Better Beginnings.

Lorriane McRae: Chief Mnjikaning First Nation
Article Abstract:
Lorraine McRae, Chief of the Mnjikaning First Nations community, won the 1996 Woman of the Year award in Orillia, Ontario. Her work in the community's casino makes her one of Canada's top women executives. She lost her Native American status when she married a non-Indian under a discriminatory clause of the 1876 Indian Act, which was revoked in 1985.
