Girls participation in school sports has increased 300,000 in 1972, to almost 3 mil in 1997, yet during the same time period the percentage of girls teams coached by women fell from 90% to less than 50%. After Title IX, male coaches sought the jobs because of higher wages and other factors.

A study by the NCAA found that universities spend twice as much money on men's athletic programs as on women's athletic programs. Five times as much money was spent on recruiting male athletes as female athletes.
