Johns Hopkins Hospital is frequently the target of protests by animal rights activists because Professor of Medicine Richard J. Traystman uses animals in his research activities at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Traystman's research activities are discussed.

A deadly new virus

Scientists have raised concern over cases of deadly hantavirus infections in the US. Signs of infection include flu-like symptoms, shortness of breath and the lowering of blood pressure. There is as yet no cure for infections.
