Becoming a feminist foremother
Article Abstract:
A psychologist recounts her early involvement with the feminist movement. The motivation was not political, but more on the professional side. As time wore on however, there evolved a form of psychoanalysis which focused on women's issues, one of which was mother-daughter relationships. An important outcome is the formation of the Mother-Daughter Group. This became a basis for feminist theories in psychoanalysis on family structures. These concepts are found in several books, such as 'The Reproduction of Mothering' and 'Feminism and Psychoanalytic Theory.'

'Weak ego boundaries': one developing feminist story
Article Abstract:
'Weak ego boundaries' is mainstream psychology's label for women's capacity for empathy as well as their interest in the other person's emotions. This realization resulted in the examination of other myths and issues regarding women, such as their so-called masochist tendencies, the culturally-built barriers between women, survival in the academe, sex and gender differences, power struggle in the patient-doctor relationship and the politics of mental health. The findings of these research have been published.

By my sisters reborn
Article Abstract:
Mainstream or patriarchal psychiatric care misdiagnose and resort to labels when treating women patients. It fails/refuses to consider the effect social constraints and prejudices have on women's mental health. Women's psychiatric problems are linked to the hostile and unjust environment in which they find themselves. Therapy itself is an opportunity to exploit women in many more ways than one. The Assn. of Women Psychiatrists, using feminist discourse has been addressing the issue on mental health.
