A weekly training routine combining a bike workout and a quick run is basic to the triathlon and duathlon. Several variations on the basic training program are described, including interval, endurance and ratchet routines.

Making strides

Women runners can improve speed and lengthen their stride by lifting the knee high. Strength of the hip flexors can be increased by exercise using a cable and pulley machine.
