Business skills I learned in ABWA: adversity can't deter determination

Article Abstract:

Susan Walton, a survivor of the Oklahoma City bombing on Apr 19, 1995, refused to give up on her plans to establish a non-profit organization despite the serious injuries she sustained from the bombing. In 1997, she started the organization Suited for Success which provides women in welfare-to-work programs with appropriate apparel to enhance their employability. She also conducts seminars to help unemployed women gain self-confidence and have the necessary work skills.

Life after business: plan for life's 'unexpecteds'

Article Abstract:

Women who have had their first child or have accumulated a certain degree of personal wealth should consider making plans for a living will. Divorced women should also contemplate such decisions to prevent the courts from moving in on personal choices. A living or a durable power of attorney appoints a confidante or a family member to make decisions in case the executor of the living will is mentally or physically incapable of making decisions for herself.

Successful recruiting

Article Abstract:

American Business Women's Assn (ABWA) Chapter Publicity Chmn Margaret Keenan-Denniston is one of the most successful recruiters of the women's organization. In her 17 years with ABWA, she was able to enlist 248 new members. She believes that her success as a recruiter is attributed to her deep love for the organization that made it easy for her to convince prospective members to join.
