Catching the bug: competitive climbing

Article Abstract:

A female climber describes the thrill she felt when she first took up the sport in 1980. She then experienced another level of joy when she began competing in 1988. From 1988-95, she won more than 20 titles, but then took a brief break from competition. She now feels relaxed and ready for more.

Plastic addict: climbing indoors

A female climber describes how she was at first disappointed with indoor climbing walls, but eventually was won over when the technology improved. She now loves the special challenges that climbing a plastic wall creates. She discusses the mental as well as the physical aspects of climbing.

Days of passion: climbing outdoors

Article Abstract:

A female climber describes the challenges and pleasures of tackling a difficult desert rock face. She spent a month working on the climb before redpointing it in early March. The experience evoked intense psychological and physical emotions in the climber.
