Doak Barnett
Article Abstract:
Doak Barnett studied at Yale University and became a newspaper correspondent in China. He was in Beijing, China, in 1949 during the communist takeover. He later worked in Hong Kong at the US consulate, and was awarded university research grants. He taught at John Hopkins University and was also an independent adviser to the US government. He was also an author of works on China. He favored acceptance of China by the US and had sought to convince politicians of this policy prior to moves toward China made by Richard Nixon.
