Art on a hot tin roof
Article Abstract:
Seymour Chwast is a designer and illustrator who has worked in many media, but since 1990 he has devoted much of his time to sheet-metal sculpture. He cuts designs from 24-gauge steel sheets in the shape of people, clocks, cars and other objects and paints them in bright acrylic colors. Many are wall sculptures, but some are free-standing. The art works resemble cardboard cutout figures, an area that also interests Chwast. He enjoys working with shape and feels that sheet-metal sculpture affords him that opportunity.
