Some scientist believe that comparing is simply a logical way to get information whereas others feel that from a survival of the fittest perspective, there's a distinct advantage to out knowing where we stand among others. Psychologists believe people tend to compare themselves to someone who is worse off when they are not feeling good about themselves.
