Competing in a different game: you don't have to be an expert athlete to be a player in a sports-related career

Article Abstract:

There are an estimated 6 million sports-related jobs worldwide including such fields as coaching, sports medicine, sports law and marketing athletic clothing. The industry is still dominated by men, but women are finally gaining ground. Tips on career planning are presented.

Participating in sports gives women a knowledge of the team-sport culture that is part of the corporate world. Being successful in a corporation requires being able to assemble a competent team, cope with pressure, demonstrate loyalty and accept failure.
