Condition critical: a new form of insurance could ease the worry when illness strikes

Article Abstract:

Critical-illness insurance is offered by 10 insurance companies in Canada. Introduced in 1995, these policies pay a lump sum to people should they be diagnosed as having a critical illness. This kind of insurance can be very useful to people dealing with the impact of critical care.

Adult children should become aware of their parents' financial status to avoid problems if their parents become ill or have an accident. However, the right time should be chosen in broaching this topic. Parents' desire to retain control over their finances should also be respected.
