Congress slow to pass Violence Against Women Act of 2005
Article Abstract:
The Senate Judiciary Committee delayed the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) due to a dispute over the section dealing with improvements for battered immigrants. The National Task Force to End Sexual and Domestic Violence Against Women and all of its member organizations, including NOW, continued their national grassroots effort to encourage additional congressional sponsors and increase support for VAWA 2005.

The Violence Against Women Act: celebrating 10 years of prevention and healing
Article Abstract:
Efforts that enabled the passing of the Violence Against Women Act in 1994 are recalled and a decade of achievements is celebrated. It is suggested that further steps must be taken to ensure true prevention, accountability and eradication of violence against women as the Act expires in 2005.

House and Senate play grinch with budget, tax cuts
Article Abstract:
The House of Representatives passed a budget bill on February 1, 2006 that will pay for future tax cuts by cutting down funding of many federal programs. Some of the federal programs that will be affected include Medicaid, child support enforcement and contraception coverage.
