Contract work: what the law says

Contract workers in Canada do not enjoy the same rights as permanent employees. The latter are covered by provincial and territorial employment standards and labor laws, and are entitled to employee benefits. However, contractuals can sue their employers if the terms of their contracts are not honored.

My ex-husband says there are new rules that will let him pay me less child support. Is he right?

Article Abstract:

The New Federal Child Support Guidelines, which were implemented on May 1, 1997, may bring some changes in the amount paid for child support. However, the guidelines' application depends on several factors such as the number of children and place of residency. Adjustments could be made by request.

The law prohibits the regular employment of school-aged children. Employees and parents are held liable if a child misses school in order to work. The law also specifies the type of job that a child can hold. However, there are exemptions, which include working in a family business or on a farm.
