Don't shoot the messenger
Article Abstract:
It is vital that changes are made to the way in which houses are bought and sold in the UK. This is the only way to eliminate gazumping, a practice for which estate agents should not be held responsible. There are signs that the government is paying attention to growing demands for more certainty in house purchasing, and it has now set up an investigation into the home buying process. Gazumping could be eliminated by ensuring that both purchasers and vendors pay a deposit of up to 5% of the agreed price.

Bullish on Oils
Article Abstract:
An interview with Jack Aydin, the oil expert at the McDonald brokerage firm, is presented. Aydin has turned bullish on oil stocks because market sentiment has been bearish on them for so long and because the industry's economic health seems to be improving. He believes oil prices will remain stable, possibly throughout 1984. Stocks he favors include Atlantic Richfield, Union of California, Texaco, Exxon, Mesa, and Beard Oil. Individual analyses of these stocks are included.
