Double-duty drugs

Drugs that are produced for a sole purpose eventually take on alternative roles of fighting other disorders. The use of off-label prescription has prompted the Food and Drug Administration to require drug manufacturers to obtain permission for other uses of approved drugs.

Article Abstract:

Interstitial cystitis, a chronic inflammation of the bladder, is an often misdiagnosed ailment that can be very painful. The large majority of its sufferers are women. Causes are unknown but it can be triggered by certain foods. Ways to prevent and treat it are described.
