Fall 1997 through 2000: NOW, allies confront Promise Keepers' agenda
Article Abstract:
The National Organization for Women (NOW) intensifies its campaign against male dominance, as it continues to question the sincerity of Promise Keepers' agenda. In a recent rally held in Washington, D.C., NOW Pres Patricia Ireland criticized the ideologies presented by Promise Keepers founder Bill McCartney, citing the political motivation behind his anti-feminist campaign. During the rally, participants further urged the need to promote women's rights, particularly their constitutional right to abortion.

NOW promises "no surrender" to right-wing Promise Keepers
Article Abstract:
Patricia Ireland, president of the National Organization for Women (NOW), vowed to uncover the political motives of the all-male, rightist religious organization, Promise Keepers. The latter organization is bent on spreading the teaching of the need for women to be subordinate to men. This organization is publicly regarded as a proponent of responsible manhood in domestic and community environments. However, the NOW believes that its ulterior motive is to perpetuate unequal treatment of men and women.

Promise Keepers pose a real threat
Article Abstract:
The all-male religious right organization, Promise Keepers, has an oppressive ulterior motive against women's struggle to achieve social equality with men. Though it espouses teachings that advocate responsible behavior among men in managing their families, it also indirectly urges intolerance to fair access to education, employment and housing. Its leaders have idealized the stereotyped passive, responsive role of women rather than recognizing their capacity to steer their own lives.
