Workers are concerned about their ability to cover their essential expenses and their livelihood, as the United States has lost 2.8 million private-sector jobs since the Bush administration in January 2001. According to NOW President Kim Gandy, women and minorities are more likely to bear the consequences of such an economy, as this will decrease women's spending power and retirement security leading to reduced Social Security benefits.
