Labor Adjustments Differ

Article Abstract:

According to a study by a team of United States and Japanese research economists, Japan and the United States reacted quite differently to structural economic changes throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, particularly in labor market adjustments. In the areas of allocating and recallocating workers in jobs due to changing market conditions, the United States relied on layoffs and massive shifts of capital resources, limited communication between labor and management on future plans for employment changes, and well-developed programs of income maintenance. Japan, on the other hand, had minimum layoffs, introduced various ways to reduce labor costs, vigorously promoted communications between labor and management, made all possible attempts to keep employees on the payroll, and transferred workers extensively within or between manufacturing plants.

Family ties: how to protect your estate

Article Abstract:

A will is but a first step to proper estate planning, which necessitates a series of steps. Estate managers and inheritors of respective property must be chosen and the date of turning over specified in a will. Settlement fees such as inheritance and estate taxes must be limited. For instance, survivorship insurance covers federal estate taxes whenever the second spouse passes away therefore ensuring that the heir receives the complete property. Other wishes for property distribution must also be included. Lastly, estate planning must be advised by professionals such as a lawyer.

Singing it again with meaning

Article Abstract:

The most successful theatre producers are those who are able to bring about powerful collaborations, according to writer and producer Garth Drabinsky. He can look at productions through a producer's eyes if necessary, but also hopes that his ideas will be sufficiently persuasive to gain the support of his collaborators. He is currently in the UK to stage his revival of the musical play 'Show Boat.' He believes that this play is particularly interesting because Oscar Hammerstein II was bold enough to address the negative aspects of society at an early stage in his career.
