Faulkner's The Hamlet
Article Abstract:
William Faulkner's novel The Hamlet is analyzed, with an emphasis on the accounting of financial transactions that take place within the story. The 1931 novel is the first volume of a trilogy about the Snopes family. The plot concerns the business dealings between a traveling sewing machine salesman named Ratliff and the 'inhumanely successful' Flem Snopes. The Hamlet is recommended to accountants because the book's plot is moved forward and its characters developed through a series of creative and complex accounting transactions.
