People in the mid-1990s seem to be seeking fitness routines that are more varied and that fit comfortably with their lifestyles. The search for new, compatible exercises is leading increasingly to routines such as yoga, stretching, t'ai chi, and self-defense techniques.

Cyclist Stephanie Barry prepared herself for an endurance tour of Death Valley by training at least three hours a day on her bicycle. She was trained by Johnny Goldberg hwo made her do 25 hours of training to cover at least 325 miles a week.
