Odell worked as a top model for eight years, but she quit modeling in 1992 to devote her energies full-time to extreme sports. She works out five to six hours a day and increased her weight from 135 lbs to 150 lbs. She loves the sense of risk and wildness that extreme sports provide.

Hargreaves lost her life on Aug 13, 1995, after completing a successful ascent of K2, a peak in the Karakoram Range of Pakistan. It is unfortunate that Hargreaves's mountaineering accomplishments have been overshadowed by her death and criticisms leveled at her for taking risks.

Christine Janin became the first French woman to climb Mount Everest in 1990. Her success led her to attempt to climb the highest peaks on each of the remaining six continents, a goal she met with her Dec 1993 ascent of Mt Aconcagua in Peru.
